Halifax Harbour Bridges advises that Angus L. Macdonald Bridge will be closed to all traffic — including motorists, pedestrians and cyclists — this weekend, from Friday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. to Monday, Sept. 22 at 5:30 a.m.

Travelers should expect traffic delays.  Drivers are advised to schedule their trips accordingly, plan alternate routes and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Halifax Mooseheads fans heading to the home opener at Scotiabank Centre Saturday night should pay particular attention to the possibility of delays.

Motorists are reminded that the MacKay Bridge remains open as usual.

Transit support for pedestrians and cyclists: To help reduce inconvenience, pedestrians and cyclists affected by the closure can pick up free Halifax Transit tickets — valid for bus or ferry travel — at the Macdonald Bridge Operations Centre (main entrance of the Macdonald Administration Building, 125 Wyse Road). Up to four tickets per person will be provided, available 24/7 beginning immediately and throughout the weekend.

The closure is required to allow crews to safely remove the overhead platform and sidewalk shed used at the Dartmouth Tower during Phase 1 of Project LifeSpan, a project to preserve the bridge’s iconic steel towers for decades to come. Work at the Halifax Tower will get underway in the spring of 2026.
