Halifax Harbour Bridges honours National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) is proud to fly the Mi’kmaq Grand Council flag to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30. 

This marks the second year Canadians have been encouraged to commemorate the traumatic and painful history, and continuing impacts, residential schools have had on the country, and to work toward reconciliation.  

“This day will be marked by different people in different ways, but my hope is we will be united in the act of reflection, said HHB CEO Tony Wright.

“This is an important moment to honour the memories of residential school survivors and their families who have suffered intergenerational traumas.”

HHB encourages Halifax residents to take time to remember those children who never returned home. 

While some activities have been postponed due to Hurricane Fiona clean-up effort, the City of Halifax will host a flag raising and proclamation at 10 a.m. at City Hall on Friday, Sept. 30. People can also take in the premier of the Mi’kmaq History Month Lightshow at the old Halifax Memorial Library, beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30. More information can be found online.
