MacKay Bridge closed weekend of July 25-28

July 23, 2025

Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) advises the public that the A. Murray MacKay Bridge will be closed to all traffic from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, until 5:30 a.m. on Monday, July 28 to accommodate necessary work.

During the closure, crews will complete essential maintenance activities, remove cable inspection platforms, and—after an extended closure—reconnect the Princess Margaret Boulevard ramps.  When the bridge reopens Monday morning, the ramps will be fully accessible to commuters once again.

HHB appreciates the public’s patience while these ramp closures were in place.

Also as of Monday, the speed limit on the MacKay will be 70 km/h, and enforcement measures will be in effect. HHB reminds all drivers to obey posted speed limits.

Plan Ahead: Macdonald Bridge Remains Open

During the MacKay closure, Macdonald Bridge will remain open to vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. However, please note that all vehicles over 3,200 kg (except passenger buses) are prohibited on the Macdonald Bridge.

Traffic delays are expected. Commuters are encouraged to:

  • Allow extra travel time
  • Avoid peak travel hours
  • Exercise caution and patience with other drivers
  • Use alternate routes
  • Take public transit where possible

HHB thanks everyone for their patience as we continue to carry out important work on the MacKay Bridge.
