Overnight closures planned for Macdonald beginning June 21; sidewalk and cycling lane remain open

Halifax Harbour Bridges advises motorists that the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge will be closed overnight on five consecutive nights to allow for the replacement of the Lane Control System, which indicates which lane(s) are open in each direction of travel.
The bridge will close to all vehicle traffic from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following morning on these dates:
- Sunday, June 21
- Monday, June 22
- Tuesday, June 23
- Wednesday, June 24
- Thursday, June 25
The sidewalk and bicycle lane will remain open during these closures.
The project includes the removal of the existing equipment on the bridge gantries, replacing fibre-optic cables and connections, and installing and commissioning new equipment. Because each gantry spans the width of the bridge and supports six lane-control signs, this work cannot be completed safely above live traffic. Other projects will also be completed during this time.
