Paving work at Windsor Street Exchange to affect MacKay Bridge traffic overnight Oct. 25-26
October 21, 2026
Drivers leaving the MacKay Bridge for Highway 111 toward the Windsor Street Exchange should expect delays overnight Sunday, Oct. 25, as crews pave a new ramp connection.
The work is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25 and continue until 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26.
During this work, the MacKay Bridge ramp onto Highway 111 toward the Windsor Street Exchange will be reduced to one lane. The existing lane reduction on the Barrington Street ramp will also be extended to allow traffic from both ramps to merge, while Hwy. 111 will be reduced to one lane in the same direction.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and use alternative routes where possible.
The paving of the new Bayne Street ramp connection from Hwy. 111 is part of the Windsor Street Exchange project. Once completed later this year, the connection will provide a more direct route for port traffic travelling from Barrington Street and the MacKay Bridge, helping reduce heavy truck traffic through other parts of the Windsor Street Exchange.
The new connection will also provide an alternate access route to Bayne Street during future construction activities, supporting broader efforts to improve traffic flow in the area and the movement of goods to and from the Port of Halifax.
