Windsor St. Exchange Redevelopment: What MacKay Bridge motorists need to know

December 3, 2025

Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is beginning preparation work in support of the upcoming Windsor Street Exchange Redevelopment project which will affect traffic near the A. Murray MacKay Bridge.
To prepare for this work, Highway 111 will close overnight from 7 p.m. Saturday, December 6 to 7 a.m. Sunday, December 7 between the Windsor Street Exchange and the MacKay Bridge. Drivers should expect delays and plan alternate routes if they can.
Then, starting at 7 a.m. Sunday, December 7, Hwy. 111 lane realignments will be in place between the Windsor Street Exchange and Massachusetts Avenue with two lanes in each direction. The existing continuous lane from the outbound Massachusetts Avenue ramp toward the Windsor Street Exchange will be removed. While this work continues, changes for drivers will be in effect around the clock.

What this means for commuters:
• Vehicles using the Massachusetts Avenue ramp to get to Hwy. 111 will now need to merge with bridge and Barrington Street traffic.
• Drivers heading toward the Windsor Street Exchange from Massachusetts Avenue should be prepared for delays and consider alternate routes.
Drivers are asked to use caution and exercise patience while these changes are in effect.

These traffic impacts are part of the HRM-managed project and are not related to Halifax Harbour Bridges’ operations or maintenance work. For more information on this municipal project, visit: halifax.ca/WSE.
