A message from our CEO on International Women’s Day
March 7, 2023
As Halifax Harbour Bridges celebrates International Women’s Day, we take a moment to acknowledge the many ways in which women contribute to our organization. From customer service to the management and the Board of Commissioners, women play a crucial role in shaping our success.
Canadian feminist and social activist, Naomi Klein, once said: “When women are present in significant numbers, the dynamics of the group change – there is more emphasis on collaboration, less on hierarchy.” At Halifax Harbour Bridges, we have seen this firsthand. Women bring a unique perspective to the table, promoting a collaborative and inclusive work environment. They have the power to create a positive and welcoming atmosphere for our customers and colleagues alike.
In customer service, the MACPASS women are the face of our organization. They provide exceptional service with a personal touch, ensuring that every interaction is a positive one. In maintenance, women bring their attention to detail and meticulous approach, keeping our infrastructure in top condition. In IT, they are helping keep our back office refresh on schedule, serving up innovative ideas and fresh approaches that ensure our organization is well-equipped to adapt to changing needs and challenges.
Women also play a significant role in management and administration, bringing their leadership skills and expertise to the table. Their ability to collaborate, communicate, and inspire is essential to building a cohesive and effective team.
In engineering too, our female co-op student brings a unique perspective to the work. We are committed to setting her up for success in a field that has long been dominated by men.
While we celebrate the many accomplishments of women at Halifax Harbour Bridges, we recognize that there is still work to be done. We must continue to strive for diversity and inclusion to ensure that all employees feel valued, respected, and supported. By promoting a culture of collaboration and inclusivity, we can build a stronger and more successful organization.
On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the power and influence of women in the workplace and beyond. We are grateful for their hard work, dedication, and leadership, and we look forward to a future where all voices are heard and valued.
